History of the Three Bear Inn The Marathon, NY area was well known in colonial times as a summer camping ground of the Seneca, Cayuga and Onondaga Indians. Hatchets and arrowheads have been found in the Inn area. In 1794, a Dr. Hunt settled here and his name is all familiar on both geography and descendants. When Abraham Brink, ascended the Tioughnioga by canoe in 1799, he was only the second settler. Brink built and operated a log cabin tavern located about the present center of the street in front of the Inn. Brink's Tavern was an early landmark. The building, know as the Brink Homestead, was erected about 1820-1840. There have been four major and many minor expansions since then. The Three Bear has been serving the traveling public for over 100 years. We are among the few remaining privately owned business along I-81. The Motel is family friendly and priced right for those folks traveling on a budget!

This is a genuine old fashioned hotel with incredible hospitality ! Everyone was wonderful and went out of there way to make our stay amazing and comfortable ! Would definitely stay again ! The breakfast cooked to order was delicious and reasonably priced !
Server/owner was a total delight!! Never, ever, had better fried chicken! Amazing early twentieth century lodge-type atmosphere that you won't see again. Perfect stop on the way north ( or south). A keeper, don't miss this one!
From the minute i walked into the place, they made me feel very comfortable. The food was great, the Staff was great, and even the clientele was great. The Three Bear Inn is owned by some very cool folks. Did i mention they are "Biker Friendly". Stop on in and show them some love.
We got caught in a snowstorm on 15th December last year. It was nearly 11pm when we crawled in and hoped for the place to still be open. Thankfully a very helpful lady there had a spare room. She quite possibly saved us that night as we couldn't have driven much further. The room was lovely and warm and clean. We can't thank them enough!!
This place makes Great burgers... freshly ground beef and I must say when I ask for medium rare I am always surprised to get it cooked to my liking. .. it was perfect! Staff is always friendly even when the place is packed. We visit several times a year and never disappointed.
Clean room. Friendly service. OK, it's dated. But hey, it's clean and comfortable.
Next time I'll try the food and the draft beer.
I'm a Brooklyn center left Brooklyn transplant here farming 12 years. This is a plain,, funky not modernised place. The food is excellent and prices fair. Service friendly. Motel rooms extremely basic, outdated, clean, and cheap. Breakfast awesome. You want fancy updated ambience? Go elsewhere. Service excellent staff excellent it is what it is. In my book, perfect.
Grew up in Marathon and love returning there for lunch at Three Bear Inn. Had yummy sausage and peppers sandwich with salt potatoes and strawberry shortcake for dessert. Quiet and homey atmosphere
Loved the authenticity of this very charming hotel and restaurant. Great place to stay or eat. We stopped here for a Sunday lunch, and had a very tasty and hearty meal. We got to chat with the owner, and great staff. We're definitely coming back again to stay and have food here. Love this place
Overall an okay place to stay at, the price is reasonable for what you get. The people were friendly and nice. The room and motel was a bit dated but clean and maintained. The furniture was functional and in good condition. The bed wasn't comfortable but okay for the night. The location was convenient since it is just off the highway. Having the restaurant right next to the motel was great (the three bears in the restaurant was cool as well), good food and reasonably priced.
